Dr. Renee Richesin
Hello! I am Dr. Renee Richesin, founder of Magnetic Hope TMS in Birmingham. A native of Birmingham, I completed my medical education at UAB, where I also completed my internship, residency, and served as chief resident in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobiology. After becoming board certified in Psychiatry, I joined Wellspring Christian Clinic in 1998 and have practiced part-time with that wonderful group of clinicians until 2019 when I opened Magnetic Hope. My experience also includes directing the psychiatric residential treatment unit at Donaldson prison and supervising psychiatric nurse practitioners.
With extensive experience in treating patients with depression, my focus has been in advocating for a holistic approach to mental health. This approach addresses physical health (nutrition, exercise, sleep), psychological wellbeing (healthy thinking patterns and combating cognitive distortions), social connections (maintaining healthy relationships), and spiritual health.
In 2019, I founded Magnetic Hope to offer TMS an innovative, safe and highly effective treatment for depression. In 2023 we grew to add Spravato (esketamine) treatments. In 2024 we expanded into the office space next door to add Russ Rogers, PMHNP to provide medication management, partnered with Lifeworks Partners to provide accelerated TMS, started offering CBT through our licensed therapists, Miranda King, LPC and George King, Jr., LPC, and opened our metabolic clinic, MIND-FULL, to connect the dots between mental health and metabolic health. In my free time I enjoy arts and crafts, gardening, cooking, biking, reading, spending time with family and friends and travel.
Elizabeth Thomas
My name is Elizabeth Thomas, and as a TMS Care Technician at Magnetic Hope, I am deeply committed to supporting others in their healing journey. With over 14 years of patient care experience, the opportunity to help individuals overcome depression and anxiety is both a privilege and an honor. Passionate about making a difference, I am proud to be part of the dedicated team at Magnetic Hope. Outside of work, I enjoy learning to play the piano, spending time at the lake, and hiking with my husband, daughters, and our dog, Kona.
Shelley Sumner
My name is Shelley. I’m a TMS Care Technician and a Metabolic Clinic coach at Magnetic Hope. I have made it my life’s mission to help other’s understand the connection between their mind and body. I am confident that when we understand that connection and make changes for the betterment of our health, our phyiscal and mental well-being get infinitely better. I’m roud of the work that we do at Magnetic Hope and look forward working with patients in the Metabolic Clinic so they can have whole body wellness.
When I’m not with patients, I enjoy working on our family farm and playing with my dog Cleo.
Vickie Peterson
Hello! My name is Vickie Peterson, and I serve as the Office Manager and Insurance Biller at Magnetic Hope. With years of administrative experience, I’m here to assist you with all your insurance and billing questions. At Magnetic Hope, we pride ourselves on being both professional and caring, striving to ensure you feel confident in our ability to support you. Our team is dedicated to providing excellent service in every aspect of your healing journey.
Having lived in the Birmingham area for most of my life, I am proud to call it home. My two wonderful sons, both married to sweet and beautiful wives, have blessed me with three adorable granddaughters who call me Grandby. Outside of work, I attend a school of ministry at my church, and as a Christian, I’m grateful to be part of a practice that genuinely cares for its patients. In my free time, I love to travel, spend time with family, and enjoy the company of my cat, Kitty-Woo-Woo.
Tania Carreker
My name is Tania Carreker, and I am proud to serve as a bilingual TMS Care Technician for Magnetic Hope. Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, my passion lies in assisting individuals through the journey of overcoming depression and anxiety. Ensuring that you feel comfortable and cared for throughout your treatment process is my top priority, and I am deeply honored to be entrusted with your care.
As a military wife, I have had the privilege of living and serving across the country alongside my husband of over 22 years. Before moving to Alabama, I worked in children’s ministry at a private Christian school in Maryland. Since relocating, my husband and I have continued to actively serve in our local church and community.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending quality time with family, cooking, hiking, fishing, painting, and taking long walks with our dog, Bella.
Russell Rogers
Hello, my name is Russell Rogers, and I am a certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I hold a degree from the University of Alabama’s Capstone College of Nursing and bring over five years of experience as a registered nurse. My master’s degree was earned from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Originally from Springville, Alabama, I have always been dedicated to helping others and passionate about assisting people in becoming the best version of themselves.
Believing that mental health should be approached holistically—through the mind, body, and spirit—I am committed to providing comprehensive care. Outside of work, I enjoy hobbies such as baking and staying active through running, weightlifting, and Brazilian jiu jitsu. It is an honor to be part of this team, and I look forward to offering the optimal care you deserve.
